1039 villages powered by Digital Knowledge Gram Panchayat Project

‘Digital Knowledge Gram Panchayat Project’ is an initiative to provide e-books and educational videos in English and Regional (Kannada) language to support students and youth from rural villages in North Karnataka (Hyderabad Karnataka Region – considered to be a backward region in the State of Karnataka) for Competitive Exams, Personality Development and Capacity building. Under the project, mintbook has implemented digital library and e-learning solution customized to each of the 1030 identified gram panchayat libraries (in six districts of Gulbarga, Raichur, Bidar, Koppal, Bellary and Yadgir) and provided accessibility to 1200+ e-books and video content covers academic subjects (Political Science, Economics, Law, Ambedkar Studies, Sociology, etc), English language books, Computer Science literacy, Personality Development, Folk Literature, Kannada classics, Mathematics, Railways / Banking / PDO / Teachers recruitment / UGC-NET / JRF / CSIR-NET / SET/ CAT/ MAT/ CMAT / KAS / Civil Services entrance examinations and reference resources. The project is aimed at enabling the rural village students to access digital content for reference and preparing for competitive examinations and skill development. Employability and economic enhancement of rural youth is on eof the key objectives. This project is fully supported by Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board (HKRDB), Government of Karnataka in collaboration with Gulbarga University. As part of the project, mintbook also trained 1040 gram panchayat librarians (10 batches) on the digital learning platform and digital content usages. The training was conducted in Centre for Competitive Excellence, Gulbarga University, Gulbarga Campus and Bellary Zilla Vigyan Kendra Centers from 28th March to 6th March 2016. Order to implement this project was issued by HKRDB on 30th Dec 2015. The innovation in this project is that the e-Learning / Digital Library technology platform is built with simplicity, cost effectiveness and scalability without compromising on the security of the digital content (embedded with Digital Rights Management and eReader on the cloud).


More than 1 million students and adults in the region benefited in accessing the educational content from the community centers. This project brought region specific (in local language) and most of the digital content in the platform and render to the unreached communities. The e-books and educational videos brings the best to the rural thereby empowering the rural youth for a level playing field and converting Gram Panchayat Libraries into e-Study Centers for the aspiring youths
