The advent of technology has transformed the learning approach in the education space. eLearning is offering learners as well as educators flexibility and feasibility of learning. It is enhancing the learning experience for the users and making it easier to find the relevant course materials effortlessly. The learning management system is taking the students by the hand and engaging them with interactive and intuitive course materials. Thanks to eLearning, teachers are finding much relief with smooth learning processes and easy student progress management. It is easier to solve student queries with the help of study materials in multiple formats and students also show higher productivity due to the enhanced learning materials.
eLearning also supports self-paced learning. So, the students study as and when they want. It accommodates the learner’s needs which is not possible with traditional learning. Traditional learning can only offer synchronous learning where the students of a similar grade have to be present at the same space at the same time. Many students shy away from asking queries or miss an important concept or a point. This synchronous learning or traditional learning is not equipped to accommodate learner needs like eLearning.
With many benefits and advantages, there are some shortcomings so eLearning too. One major disadvantage of eLearning over traditional learning that every parent agrees to is increased screen times. For which a cautious use of technological devices is important.
Though eLearning offers anytime and anywhere access to learning, there are other factors also to consider. For example- rural areas have a major electricity supply problem. These areas also fall short of appropriate internet connectivity owing to network issues. The major requirement of eLearning is technological devices that run on electricity and internet connection.
So, to sum it up, there are many advantages and disadvantages of technology that one must ponder upon before making the right choice.
